Matthew 6

1 Take heed that ye do not your righteousness before men, to be seen of them: else ye have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.2 When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:4 that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.

5 And when ye pray, ye shall not be as the hypocrites: for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thine inner chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.7 And in praying use not vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.8 Be not therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.9 After this manner therefore pray ye. Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so on earth.11 Give us this day our daily bread.12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.13 And bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen of men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thy head, and wash thy face;18 that thou be not seen of men to fast, but of thy Father who is in secret: and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall recompense thee.

19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal:20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:21 for where thy treasure is, there will thy heart be also.22 The lamp of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is the darkness!24 No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.25 Therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment?26 Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much more value then they?27 And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit unto the measure of his life?28 And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:29 yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.30 But if God doth so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?31 Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?32 For after all these things do the Gentiles seek; for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.33 But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.34 Be not therefore anxious for the morrow: for the morrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Matthäus 6

1 Hütet euch, eure Frömmigkeit vor den Augen der Leute zu üben, um von ihnen bewundert zu werden! Sonst habt ihr keine Belohnung von euerm Vater im Himmel zu erwarten.2 Wenn du nun Liebeswerke übst, laß es nicht vor dir ausposaunen,t wie es die Heuchler machen in den Versammlungshäusern und auf den Straßen, um vor den Leuten gelobt zu werden.t Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Sie haben ihre Belohnung schon weg.t3 Sondern, wenn du Liebeswerke übst, so soll deine linke Hand nicht wissen, was deine rechte tut,t4 damit dein Wohltun im Verborgenen bleibe. Dann wir dein Vater, der ins Verborgene sieht, es dir vergelten.5 Und wenn ihr betet, macht's nicht wie die Heuchler!t Die lieben es, in den Versammlungshäusern und an den Straßenecken zu stehen und zu beten, um den Leuten aufzufallen. Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Sie haben ihre Belohnung schon weg.6 Sondern wenn du beten willst, so geh in deine Kammer, schließ die Tür hinter dirt und bete dann zu deinem Vater, der im Verborgenen wohnt! Dann wird dein Vater, der ins Verborgene sieht, es dir vergelten.7 Beim Beten plappert nicht gedankenlos wie die Heiden! Die meinen, sie finden Erhörung, wenn sie viel Worte machen.8 Gleicht ihnen nicht! Denn euer Vater weiß was ihr bedürft, noch ehe ihr ihn bittet.9 Ihr sollt nun also beten: Unser Vater, der du bist im Himmel! Dein Name werde geheiligt!10 Dein Königreich komme! Dein Wille geschehe, wie im Himmel,t also auch auf Erden!t11 Unser Brot für morgent gib uns heute!12 Und vergib uns unsere Schulden, wie auch wir vergeben unseren Schuldnern.t13 Und führe uns nicht in Versuchung!t Sondern bewahre uns vor dem Bösen!t14 Dennt wenn ihr den Menschen ihre Fehltritte vergebt, so wird euch euer himmlischer Vater auch vergeben.15 Wenn ihr aber den Menschen nicht vergebt, so wird euch euer Vater eure Fehltritte auch nicht vergeben.16 Wenn ihr fastet,t schaut nicht trübselig drein wie die Heuchler! Die entstellen ihr Gesicht,t damit die Leute ihr Fasten sehen. Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Sie haben ihre Belohnung schon weg.17 Wenn du fastest, so salbe dein Haupt und wasche dein Antlitz,t18 damit die Leute dein Fasten nicht sehen, sondern allein dein Vater, der im Verborgnen wohnt. Dann wird dein Vater, der ins Verborgne sieht, es dir vergelten.19 Sammelt euch nicht Schätze hier auf Erden, wo Motten und Würmer Zerstörung üben, und wo Diebe einbrechen und stehlen.20 Sammelt euch vielmehr Schätze im Himmel, wo keine Motten und Würmer Zerstörung üben, und wo keine Diebe einbrechen und stehlen.21 Denn wo dein Schatz ist, da ist auch dein Herz.t22 Des Leibes Leuchte ist das Auge.t Ist dein Auge gesund, so ist dein ganzer Leib im Lichte.t23 Ist aber dein Auge krank, so ist dein ganzer Leib in Finsternis. Wenn nun das Licht in dirt verfinstert ist, wie groß muß dann die Finsternis sein!t24 Niemand kann zwei Herren dienen.t Denn er wird den einen hassen und den andern lieben oder doch dem einen anhangen und gering von dem andern denken. Ihr könnt nicht Gott und zugleich dem Gelde dienen.t25 Darum sage ich euch: Sorgt nicht ängstlich für euer Leben, was ihr essen und trinken sollt, auch nicht für euern Leib, was ihr anziehen sollt. Ist nicht das Leben mehr wert als die Nahrung? Und steht der Leib nicht höher als die Kleidung?t26 Seht auf die Vögel, die unter dem Himmel fliegen! Sie säen nicht, sie ernten nicht, sie sammeln nichts in Speicher; trotzdem ernährt sie euer himmlischer Vater. Steht ihr denn nicht viel höher als sie?27 Wer von euch kann mit all seinem Sorgen sein Leben auch nur um eine kurze Spanne Zeit verlängern?t28 Betrachtet doch die wilden Lilien auf dem Felde, wie sie wachsen! Sie mühen sich nicht ab, sie spinnen nicht.29 Und doch — das sage ich euch — ist selbst Salomo in all seiner (königlichen) Pracht nicht so (herrlich) gekleidet gewesen wie eine von ihnen.30 Wenn Gott nun das Gras auf dem Felde, das heute noch in Blüte steht und morgen in den Ofen geworfen wird,t so herrlich kleidet, wird er da nicht viel mehr euch Kleidung geben, ihr Kleingläubigen?t31 Darum sollt ihr nicht ängstlich sorgen und sagen: 'Was sollen wir essen? Was sollen wir trinken? Was sollen wir anziehen?'32 Denn das sind lauter Fragen, womit sich die Heiden beschäftigen. Euer himmlischer Vater weiß ja, daß ihr dies alles nötig habt.33 Trachtet vielmehr vor allem nach dem Königreiche Gottes und nach der Gerechtigkeit, die ert verlangt; dann soll euch alles diest danebent auch zuteil werden.34 Seid also nicht besorgt im Blick auf morgen; denn der morgende Tag wird selber für sich sorgen. Jeder Tag hat genug an seiner eigenen Mühsal.t
