The wise men looked for Jesus in Jerusalem probably because it seemed logical in human terms to seek a king in the capital city...
The teachers of the law knew to look for him in Bethlehem because they knew the Scriptures.
We won't find God's truth through our worldly thinking but by studying the Scriptures.
But just knowing the Word does not imply a relationship with Christ...our heart must desire to know Him...if our hearts are more concerned with our own agenda then we can know the Word and fail to find the One who is revealed by It.
