Heart intent.
The passage contrasts two types of people...
Those who recognize and acknowledge their sin and need of God.
Those who pretend they have no sin and believe God needs them.
The latter cling to traditions and rituals to find salvation and come up empty.
The former surrender all they once had o find salvation and come up full.
The actions of the former reflect the work Christ is doing in Him and bring God glory.
The actions of the latter act only out of their own ability and bring glory only to themselves.
