Far From You

Today this just jumped out at me. I have to admit that normally I don't love to read Genesis because having read it many times, it tends to get a little dry - if you let it.

You're making me leave my home and life far from you...

This is what sin does to us. It puts distance between us and a holy God who cannot stand it. I knew that God had sent Cain away, but I had not picked up on Cain's reaction just on his original sin. Cain acted in anger and probably jealousy when he killed his brother. Unfortunately when we are controlled by our emotions we tend not to think of the consequences of our actions. Just like Cain, we can suffer the same consequences. But do we react the same way. Yes he had to leave his home but he was also concerned about living far from God. When we choose to sin, we choose that barrier between us and God.
