Qualifications for Heaven
Ps. 15: "Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour. In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the Lord. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not. He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved."
Apparently, the "tabernacle" and "holy hill" mentioned here are ultimately in reference to Heaven, because only there will there be no sin. In support of this, Heb. 9:24 mentions that the earthy tabernacle was only a figure of the one in Heaven; and Ps. 24:3 calls the place where Jesus ascended, which is Heaven, "the hill of the Lord".
With that being said, Ps. 15 includes a list of upright characteristics that those who will make it to Heaven will possess. Why is this chapter focusing so much on characteristics when the Bible teaches that salvation is by faith, through Christ (Eph. 2:8)? The answer to that is, because true saving faith is demonstrated by a changed life.
