Unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees...
It is a waste of time to strive to be righteous-we will ever be good enough.
It is not good enough just to practice the law but to live it...Jesus is trying to show us that outward acts of the law are not sufficient- it has to come from the heart. We have to stop worrying about how others see us and start worrying about others, caring not about our own predicament but that of the world about us, not looking to glorify ourselves, bit to glorify the Father.
LORD, I want to be holy because you are Holy and I desire to be like You. Help me to understand holiness as more than just a lifestyle- to recognize my ongoing need to have you renew my mind/ adjust my perception and purify my heart...may I be motivated by your love, endure in the hope that is from you and be strengthen by faith in You...change me on the inside and then perhaps I will have a chance to live like you so that You may be glorified. AMEN
