Honesty is What Matters

Psalm 17:1 (NLT) - "O Lord, hear my plea for justice. Listen to my cry for help. Pay attention to my prayer, for it comes from honest lips."

I like how the NLT uses the word "honest" here. That goes to show us that honesty matters with God. For example, when we are mired in sin and pray for pardon, it is honesty that counts. God will forgive us and helps us to overcome our sins, as long as we remain true to God.

That counts for anything else we pray for. Whether the will of the Lord be done in our business dealings. Whether we pray for those who have only evil intentions for us. Or whatever the case may be. It is honesty that counts.

We need to be true to God, to others, and to ourselves. Then God will honor our prayers. Otherwise, we will be living in hypocrisy. In our hypocrisy, we may be able to fool others and even ourselves; but we cannot fool God. And God won't honor our prayers.
