Godly Conversation
Ps. 17:3 (NLT) - "You have tested my thoughts and examined my heart in the night. You have scrutinized me and found nothing wrong. I am determined not to sin in what I say."
It's interesting that David's righteousness is connected to his conversation. As a result of being able to control his conversation, he was able to live a life approved by God.
This parallels James 3:2: "... if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way."
It seems fundamental then that we learn to control our words before we can move on to Christian maturity. And in order to be able to control our words, we need to control our thoughts. This is basically what Luke 6:45 teaches us: "... What you say flows from what is in your heart [or mind]."
How can we gain control of our mind in order to guard what we say and live a life pleasing to God? The answer is Jesus! We need to pray that He guides our thoughts, words, and actions every day; and we need to be receptive to His leading and follow it. If we do this, we may progress to living righteously to the glory of God.
