Child-like Faith (Rev. Adam Herod, Youth Associate)

Mark 10:13-16

One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him. When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” Then he took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them. (Mark 10:13-16 NLT)

Not childish, but child-like - trusting, obedient.

Anecdote - kids in youth & children's groups who have to grow up sooner than they should have. Many (kids & adults) question, "Where was God during this time? Why didn't He answer my prayer?"

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the L ord . “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11 NLT)

Romans 8:31-32

What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? (Romans 8:31, 32 NLT)

Three Keys to Help Us Retain Child-Likeness

1) Don't Hide From God - Run To God

Anecdotes - Adam & Eve hiding in the Garden; little Adam Herod hiding from his parents after sneaking/chewing 3 packs of Juicy Fruit.

Proverbs 18:10

The name of the L ord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe. (Proverbs 18:10 NLT)

2) Live From God's Approval, Not For It

Realize God loves you, no matter what.

Anecdote - Kaitlyn's sports performance, looking over for approval when good or bad happens on the field/court.

When we live our life, confident of God!s approval, it frees us. "What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?" (Romans 8:31 NLT)

3) Know God is Working In You

Romans 8:28

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. (Romans 8:28 NLT)

Anecdote - Pastor Adam's mother passing 8 years ago, new pastor, couldn't understand. Finally saw God has a different plan than his. Three Hebrew children, fiery furnace, example.

Daniel 3:17-18

If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.” (Daniel 3:17, 18 NLT)

Be encouraged. You serve a good God, Who is for you, lives in you, and will continue to work through you. If God has been for me in the past, He will be so in the future.

Run to God. Work from His approval. Know He is working in you.
