Divine Protection
"That night God came to Laban in a dream and said. "Be careful! Be careful of every word you say to Jacob" Can you imagine the thoughts running through Laban's head? He has cheated Jacob at every turn and although the bible doesn't say why, we can assume a few things. He has household gods so it's safe to assume he did not know God. He tricked Jacob when it came time to marry Rachel. For him it seemed dealing underhanded is a way of life. So God tells Jacob to return to his homeland and God even provides wealth (livestock) for Jacob prior to his return. Gods hands are all over Jacobs life, and it matters not that Jacob himself was a cheat and a liar, and my all time favorite, Jacob has had the audacity to tell God IF! If you will do this, If you will do that, then I... God in his word tells us not to test him except when he refers to the tithe. But I digress, God appears to Laban and tells him to be careful of every word he says to Jacob. How awesome is that. God protects Jacob and really unless Laban tells him, he has no way of knowing how. Now bring that to our own life. Do you believe that God still does this? I do! I can't prove it but I believe that not only can he do this, but I believe he still does. A lady I know who did ministry in down town Atlanta - in the roughest section of Atlanta where the drug dealers and hookers do their thing, once told the story of being stranded because their vehicle chose this particular weekend to breakdown at what the considered to be an inconvenient time and place. They were very afraid even though they had been working, being stranded was an altogether different story. They got their car fixed and left only to return the following week where they found one young lady who was very surprised to see them. She had overhead local thugs planning to rob them and she thought for sure they would not be back once that happened. The ladies were never robbed and when this young lady asked she was told that they were not alone when the thugs went to find them so they left. My friend said she got such chill bumps. You see the ministry was for hurting women on the street and there were no men involved. They were alone waiting for a service truck for their car, but the thug who planned to rob them said when they went to do so, there were four very large men with them. Divine Protection or not? I think so....
