Boundaries- Laws (part 3)
#1 The Law of Sowing and Reaping- Rescuing another from reaping enables him/her to continue irresponsible behavior. Try to allow natural consequences. The law of sowing and reaping stays in effect, but the doer does not suffer; someone else does. When we rescue, we pay the price and the doer continues with no consequences (Aka-codependent). Confronting the out of control person is not painful to the irresponsible person; only consequences are.
#2 The Law of Responsibility
John 15:12 Jesus commands us to love one another, not be one another. "I can't think, behave or grow for you. You are responsible for yourself." We are responsible for guardIng our own hearts, by setting boundaries. Dont feel guilty! Dont get confused!
#3 The Law of Power
Romans 7:15, 19, 23 (I do not understand the things I do. The good I want to do is not what I do. The evil I do not want to do, I keep doing.). Though, u might be powerless over certain things now, u do have power to do things that will bring victory later.
A. U have the power to CONFESS the wrong things u cant change yet.
B. You have the power to SUBMIT ur inability to God. You always have the power to ask God for help. (You might not have the power to make urself well, but u do have power to call the dr)
C. You have the power to ASK God and others to reveal more about what needs to change. (Search my heart or Lord and remove anything that offends u and others)
D. You have the power to REPENT. Ask for forgiveness! This does not mean ur perfect, but that u see ur sinfil parts and want to change.
E. You have the power to HUMBLE YOYRSELF... asking God and others to help u with boundary development.
F. You have the power to FORGIVE. Seek out those who have hurt u and make amends.
#4 Law of Respect
Matt 7:12 Treat others the way u would want them to treat you.
#5 The Law of Motivation
Check your motives.. is it love? Or is it fear of losing love?
#6 The Law of Evaluation
It's ok if we hurt others with our choices.. hurt helps, not harms... we can evaluate/consider other's feelings, but it should not keep us from setting a boundary.
#7 The Law of Proactivity
For every action there is an equal and opoosite reaction. ex: it is normal for victims of sexual abuse to live boundariless lives and be found in a powerless victimized state. But, when is enough enough? We must play a part in the change- it involves action!
#8 The Law of Envy
Some envy others personality and characteristics. Don't compare yourself to others and become stuck and resentful. Envy is a sign that u are lacking something. Desires are ok.. ask God to give you what u desire or give up the desire.
#9 The Law of Activity
Many times we lack initiative. We have to push through certain things! Dont be passive and inactive! Passive ppl are not usually evil, but passivity can become an opening for evil if we dont push against it! God does not rebuke those who try and fail, but he does rebuke those who fail to try!
#10 The Law of Exposure
Be honest. Bring everything to light. Express ur boundaries directly or they will be expessed indirectly. Healing takes place in the light- dont hide in the dark.
