The Double minded man

James (1:6-8) warns of the double minded man who is tossed about by every change of circumstance- unstable and unable to receive from God.
Herod, in this account reminds me of such a man. He was unsettled by John the baptist because it would seem that he had given into the lusts of his flesh but John stirred up some latent guilt instigating an inner battle, he was afraid to displease the people, afraid to look bad in front of his guests...basically unable to make a decision for himself and stick to it regardless of the circumstances. And it would seem his wife totally used this to her advantage.
LORD, help me to stand firm in my faith in You. Not stubborn and inflexible so that I don't listen to the opinions and teachings of others thinking I have got everything right, but strong so that I am not easily swayed by circumstances, certain- not in my self but in You- so that there is no room for doubt when things don't go as expected, and stable so that I can't be manipulated by people but only led by You.
