Hear the word of the Lord!
There is not a more common theme in all of Scripture than the words above. From the very beginning of the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation, God is pleading with us to hear and to heed His word. This is a life and death decision for us? To hear and to heed God’s word is to have life. To hear and not heed His word is death. In the later part of verse 10, God calls Jerusalem Sodom and Gomorrah. Because they have left the truths of His Word, they have become like the two most wicked cities in biblical history. Two cities that God completely destroyed because of their vile disobedience to His word. This is how serious a thing God’s Word is.
In Ezekiel 37 (The valley of the dry bones), it is the Word of God that brings the dead to life. Ezekiel is told to prophesy to the bones and say to the bones, “Hear the Word of the Lord.” The power of our relationship with God is not in our emotion or in our sacrifices. The power of our relationship with God is in our adherence to His Word. It is better that the spirit-filled Word fill our hearts, minds and souls. Today, you and I are born again because the Spirit of God worked through the Word of God and performed that good work in us. Where are you in relation to God’s Word today? Are you listening? Are you hearing? Are you heeding?
Jesus says often, “Let him who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
Peace!
Tom
