Finding the hidden treasure

Sometimes we think that a revelation will fall on us outta nowhere while we're reading the bible... At least that's what I thought for a long time... And I would get frustrated when I would read the word of God for days and not receive anything at all!

I love how this verse puts it though... it "is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field". The revelations are there, but they are hidden in the bible, and we have to take the time to look for them and find them...

I get a picture in my mind that its like a gift, wrapped in a box, then placed in a gift bag...the gift is for us. But we have to take the time to receive the gift. And again, if you don't bother to open the gift, you will be stuck with a pretty gift bag and think that that's all there is for you. When in reality, if you pull out the box and open it, you may find a precious ring, a diamond or another valuable item.

But it takes effort to discover a revelation. Like I mentioned before, it is hidden, and it takes effort to ponder and meditate on the word of God in order to reveal it. Sometimes, it might take more than one sitting... You may be going about your day but in your mind, constantly returning back to that verse...back to that scripture. And as soon as a thought hits you, run to get your notebook and a pen and start opening the package until you start seeing a full picture.

Lets say you opened the gift and its a diamond necklace... The revelation is not complete until you put it on. Application. Every revelation that you receive is useless unless you practice it in your personal life. Only after your life is transformed by this revelation, will people look at you and say, wow, what a beautiful necklace! If you don't put it on, noone will see a difference in you, and it will not benefit your life.

Practical steps:
1. Read the bible
2. When a verse stands out, ponder on it throughout the day, week...
3. Once you get a thought, no matter how small, start writing it down until you see the big picture and discover the hidden treasure
4. Apply it in your life - make decisions and act upon them
