The word of God grew and multiplied in Jerusalem and Palestine, especially after the removal of Herod Agrippa. Verses 1-24 was an update on what had happened in Jerusalem and Israel the year before (44 A.D.). Verse 25 resumes the narrative. Barnabas and Paul returned from Jerusalem after delivering gifts and offerings from the church of Antioch because of the famine which started in A.D. 45. They brought John Mark with them from Jerusalem, probably at the suggestion of Barnabas because John was a cousin of Barnabas.
