Good And Evil
Adam and Eve are now experiencing their conscience at work and realized what they had done wrong, they experienced frustration. Their sweet communion with God in the cool of the day was marred because of disobedience. They now realized that they were knowledgeable but not in the sense as Satan had promised. They now know that they had to be accountable to God for their wrong actions. Where is Satan now? He abandoned Adam and Eve. Satan had withdrawn himself from the picture and Adam and Eve are left to suffer the consequences alone. Satan set the trap, Eve took the bait and also gave the fruit to Adam who ate thereof. The pair, made perfect, found themselves in a position of compromise, nakedness and hiding from their creator. They felt like a failure. Having recognized their nakedness they hid themselves with fig leaves and also hid at the sound of Gods voice. “There is a way that seemeth right to a man but the end thereof is death.” Prov. 14:12. Surely this is the case in this situation as the words and the enticement of the devil seemed attractive and right to Eve. This is a lesson for us today that the right choice requires hard work and sacrifice on the part of self. We should therefore be careful not to quickly indulge but weigh up the pros and cons when we are enticed or offered something desirable that lead to easy choices.
Adam and Eve sinned. As a result, man in general inherited the consequences detailed in the judgment God that are stated in his words. These will be discussed next.
Though temptation of the devil seemed like an easy choice with little work on the part of Eve, she did not realize that there were long term repercussions. Adam and Eve’s fall from grace because of disobedience not only affected them but all creations including the environment.
Judgment is therefore passed upon the serpent, woman and man. God the creator of all things is no respecter of man or serpent. Here he is seen as a just and righteous God in that His perfect moral nature would not allow sin to go unpunished. He set his rules to govern man’s lifestyle in Garden of Eden. His rules were broken. The punishment is as follows: To the serpent God said, “…. Cursed are you above all life stock and all the wild animals. You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” Gen 3: 14-16. (LASB). Not only was the serpent cursed but the woman was told that her pain in childbearing and childbirth will be greatly increased. In addition the woman’s desire will be for her husband and that the husband will rule over her. The punishment that was given to Adam is that the ground is cursed because of him; he will eat of the ground through painful labor and will do so all the days of his life. The ground, being cursed, will produce thistles and thorns. Adam was also told that he will eat his food by the sweat of his brow until he returned to the ground from which he came. It is appropriate to conclude that this is the death penalty. Sin in our lives can be compared to pollution in streams, a small quantity is deadly.
The picture unfolds where God created man in his image and likeness, where He blew the breath in man and man became a living soul, where man was placed in the Garden but sinned and judgment was pronounced but there is a plan of redemption.

God as a forgiving and merciful creator made garments to cover them. This was by the shedding of blood. This shows that something was necessary to cleanse man from his sin and so this was a fore-shadow of what was to come.
