Matt 27:46 & 55 - Forsaken
Interesting how Peter followed Jesus "from a distance" in the same manner that these women also followed Jesus "from a distance" - but one thing we don't consider is that God and His angels also kept their distance! They could have intervened but God had to leave Jesus alone because God cannot look upon sin - He turned His back on His son, left Him completely alone there on the cross, with all his earthly and heavenly friends standing at a distance - all of this had to be done for His death to have cleansed our sin. And this is why Jesus cried out, "Why have you forsaken me?" It hurt Jesus to see all of this, yet He knew what God felt because when His good friend John the Baptist was put in prison Jesus never even went to visit him, for there was work to do. God had a work to do and Jesus knew He needed to attend to it. Remember how John reacted when Jesus didn't come? "Are you really the Christ?" John got offended. Now Jesus is walking in those same shoes! But thank God He did!
