Rose colored glasses

Whew... It's been wars and conflicts,
murders and betrayals, falling into sin and digging their way out, turning away from God and running back to Him... the Bible leaves me ready for ROMANCE!

God blesses romance! Hello--He created it! And even though God calls His church the bride and Himself the Bridegroom, the relationship is LOVE not sex!
This book is about both!

Us women especially like it when the prince rescues the girl and takes her away, as in the case of the movie Pretty Woman!
You have a girl involved in prostitution and someone comes and falls in love with her and rescues her from a life of sin and shame! And he even wants to marry her!

This young woman from Shunem is simply called the Shulamite. She doesn't feel worthy either. She's had a hard life!

I am weathered but still elegant, oh, dear sisters in Jerusalem,
Weather-darkened like Kedar desert tents, time-softened like Solomon's Temple hangings.
Don't look down on me because I'm dark, darkened by the sun's harsh rays.
My brothers ridiculed me and sent me to work in the fields.
They made me care for the face of the earth, but I had no time to care for my own face.
(Song of Solomon 1:5, 6 MSG)

She is ready for someone to love her!

Take me away with you—let us hurry! Let the king bring me into his chambers.
(Song of Solomon 1:4a NIV)

And as the brides attendants watch, they like this!

We rejoice and delight in you ; we will praise your love more than wine.
(Song of Solomon 1:4b NIV)

And the Shulamite knows that these girls who are her 'brides attendants' would love to be in her place!

She says to him;
How right they are to adore you!
(Song of Solomon 1:4 NIV)

She wants love and romance and she tells him!

Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth— for your love is more delightful than wine. (Song of Solomon 1:2 NIV)

Now I like a man who smells good! And apparently she did too!

Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes; your name is like perfume poured out.
No wonder the young women love you!
(Song of Solomon 1:3 NIV)

This is her bridegroom, and they are in love!
She longs to be with him wherever he's at!

Tell me where you're working —I love you so much— Tell me where you're tending your flocks, where you let them rest at noontime. Why should I be the one left out, outside the orbit of your tender care? (Song of Solomon 1:7 MSG)

He assures her he is close, even if she cant find him right away!

If you can't find me, loveliest of all women, it's all right. Stay with your flocks. Lead your lambs to good pasture. Stay with your shepherd neighbors.
(Song of Solomon 1:8 MSG)

Now it may not seem like very romantic thing to say....

My darling, you are like a mare among the king’s stallions. (Song of Songs 1:9 NCV)

But this gives us the sense that the Shulamite was as alluring and exciting as a filly among stallions.

Can you see him tracing the outline of her neck with his hand as he says:

Pendant earrings line the elegance of your cheeks; strands of jewels illumine the curve of your throat.
(Song of Solomon 1:10MSG)

He likes the way she has prepared herself for him!

The Daughters of Jerusalem, the brides attendants, offer their gifts!

We will make for you gold earrings with silver hooks.
(Song of Songs 1:11 NCV)

This couple is royalty in their eyes!

They are in love! They are kind to one another! They say kind things!

She says;

How beautiful you are, my darling. How very beautiful! Your eyes are doves.
(Song of Songs 1:15, HCSB)

He says;

How handsome you are, my love. How delightful! Our bed is lush with foliage;
(Song of Songs 1:15, 16 HCSB)

Oh, ...the joy of being in love! But we all know what a fine line there is between love and hate don't we?
The same people that promise to love for a lifetime stand before the judge signing divorce papers!
Where DID THAT love go?
What happened?

This book shows us how to love!
It shows us how to STAY in love!
Too often relationships start in the bedroom before they begin at the alter. This is not Gods intentions!

But the great thing about our biggest love... God Himself... Is that He forgives and lets us begin again!
He doesn't hold things against us!
He doesn't sign divorce papers!
He hates divorce!
And He loves us so.

I know I'm not worth the price He paid for me, the price of death by crucifixion!
And if it were not for His love I would be destitute and desperate too -but he rescued me from a life of sin and shame!

They say love is blind!
But Gods love isn't blind! He sees clearly!
He just see's me through rose colored glasses, rose colored to remind me that it's HIS BLOOD that makes me worthy of His love!

Now I'd say THATS true love!!'
