Jesus was arrested and sent to both the high priest and Pilate for questioning. Finding no basis for charging Jesus with a crime, Pilate was going to release him, but instead gave the people a choice as to who they wanted to be free; they chose Barrabus, a man who was arrested for insurrection over Jesus, the very man who would die for our sins.
