Day #6 What on Earth am I Here For?
- 1 Corinthians 7:31 (NLT)
- 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NLT)
- Hebrews 11:13 (NLT)
- James 4:4 (NLT)
- 1 Peter 2:11 (NLT)
Life on Earth is A temporary assignment.
To make the best of ur life, u must never forget 2 TRUTHS: First, compared with eternity, life is extremely brief. Second, Earth is only a temporary residence- you won't be here long, so don't get too attached.
U are a foreigner, here on assignment.. Christians should carry a "Spiritual Green Card", as a reminder that their citizenship is in HEAVEN.
There is far more to life than the yrs u live on this planet. Ur homeland is HEAVEN! When u grasp this TRUTH, U will stop worrying about "having it all" on Earth.
God warns us about the dangers of living for the here and now...
(James 4:4) You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
God also tells us not to get too attached to what is around us, because it is temporary..
(1Cor7.31) Those who use the things of the world should not become attached to them. For this world as we know it will soon pass away.
The fact that Earth is not our ultimate home explains why followers of Jesus experience difficulty, sorrow, and rejection in this world. It is written that God intentionally allows u to feel a significant amt of discontent and dissatisfaction in life- longings that will never be filled on this side of eternity. U will not be COMPLETELY HAPPY here, bc u are not supposed to be!
Earth is not our final home; we were created for something much better.
Think about it... A fish would not be happy on land, bc it was made for water. An eagle could never feel satisfied if it wasnt allowed to fly..
Now, dont take this as Christians should be depressed and miserable... what the author is saying is that, u were created for eternity- ur never gonna be COMPLETE until u get there. When u really understand this.. u stop running after something that u were never meant to find!! U live differently- its not depressing or miserable...Its actually peaceful and joyful, when u stop huntIng for something u will never meant to find!!
It's a fatal mistake to assume that Gods goal for ur life is material prosperity and popular success as the world defines it. The bible tells us never to focus on temporary crowns (1pet2:11)
In Gods eyes, the greatest heros are not the ones that achieve prosperity, success, and power in this life, but those who treat this life as a temporary assignment and serve faithfully, expecting their promised reward in eternity. It takes faith to live on Earth as a foreigner.
Paul was faithful, yet he ended up in prison. John the Baptist was faithful, but he was beheaded. Millions of faithful ppl have lost everything and come to the end of this life with nothing. But the end of this life was NOT THE END for them and it wont be the end for you!
Heb11:13
"All these great ppl died in faith. They did not get the things God promised his ppl, but they saw them coming in the future and were glad. They said they were visitors and strangers on Earth.. they were waiting for a better country- a heavenly country"
When life gets tough, when you're overwhelmed with doubt, or when u wonder if living for christ is worth the effort, remember ur not home yet. At death you wont leave home- you'll go home!!
Day #6
Point to ponder: This world is not my home.
Verse to remember: "So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal " (2Cor4:18)
Question to consider: How should the fact that life on Earth is a temporary assignment change the way I am living right now?
