That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” (Mark 4:35 NIV)
This statement is for everyone in the world. What does it mean to 'cross over to the other side?'
Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. (Mark 4:36 NIV)
Jesus teaches that only a few will be saved. In this example Jesus left the crowd behind. Jesus commands that we leave the crowd behind and follow Him. Staying with the crowd will bring influences into your life that will harm you and the ones you love. They took Jesus along as He was, perfect.
A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” (Mark 4:37, 38 NIV)
We will all face difficulties in our life. We ask God, 'do you care about our situation Lord?' There are many examples of Jesus intervening as He was moved with compassion. Jesus knows our temptations, pain and heartache. He cares about us and intervenes in our lives. The storms in our lives don't scare God. He is never surprised.
It is our responsibility to communicate to our Lord. Do we pray with passion until He intervenes? We don't want a passive God but we treat our prayer lives and Bible study passively. Can Jesus intervene in our lives? Here's one example.
He (Jesus) got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. (Mark 4:39 NIV)
God is not afraid of anything facing us. When Gid leads us one can put 1,000 to flight and two can put 10,000 to flight. Whom or what shall we fear if Jesus is with us? No one and nothing.
Who is in the boat with you following Jesus? Think of all the other little boats around you in the storm. Have you intervened for them in your prayer life? Look at the examples in the scriptures like Cornelius, Ruth and Gideon. God heard their prayers and provided for them. He helps us when we pray to Him. He helps others when we pray for others.
Why are you afraid? Why are you passive in your relationship with Him? Don't be afraid. Don't be passive. Talk to God. Study His Word. Leave the crowd behind, get in the boat with Jesus and trust Him to deal with the storms you will run in to. Jesus will handle them. All we need to do is trust Him.
