Marching Into Battle
Why does God tell soldiers heading into battle to not be afraid? God knows us, he created us and he knows our fears. He also knows that the enemy will use fear to bring us to our knees and cause us to flee.
Having served in the military during peace time, I did not have to face an enemy, however as a soldier in God's army, I face those enemies every day. The bible tells us in Eph 6:12 that "we are not fighting against humans. We are fighting against forces and authorities and against rulers of darkness and powers in the spiritual world." And unlike the soldiers of other countries, these forces know our weaknesses and use them against us.
This warning given to Israel applies to us today. We are all soldiers in God's army. Whether you agree with war or not, you will be in a battle. The enemies of God don't care if you are a pacifist and will use everything against you to get you to be an ineffective soldier for God. But unlike soldiers who march into battle for the nations army, we march into battle knowing that our victory is secure. God is with us and he has already won. Regardless of the efforts of the enemy, it's over. When you know that the outcome in victory, it's easier to march into battle without fear.
