ten concubines
David probably left only these ten women because he thought Absalom will consider them harmless & not kill them as he would have any male guard.
I somehow find it hard to believe David would have disregarded the lives of his concubines. it just wasnt the kind of person he was.
Remember, he listened to Abigail and turned away from killing her husband, forgave several other enemies before and after, loved Bathsheba even after God punished him severely for his sin when he could have easily transfered the aggression to her (after all, he fell because of her) etc. I somehow cant believe he disregarded anyone enough to endanger their lives. It was a bad decision he made leaving the concubines, but I dont think he meant evil for them.
