pay it forward
The movie "Pay it Forward", released in 2000 was a challenging and thought provoking movie. The movie was about a young boy named, Trevor McKinney. He was troubled by his mother's alcoholism and fears of his abusive but absent father. Yet an assignment from his new social studies teacher, Mr. Simonet arrested his attention and in many ways freed him from being consumed by his own problems. The assignment: think of something to change the world and put it into action. Trevor conjures the notion of paying a favor not back, but forward--repaying good deeds not with payback, but with new good deeds done to three new people. Trevor's efforts to make good on his idea bring a revolution not only in the lives of himself, his mother and his physically and emotionally scarred teacher, but in those of an ever-widening circle of people completely unknown to him.
I believe this is the revolution that God started and expects us to carry out. We know love because God chose to love us. Thus, the great command is not only to love God, but to "Pay it Forward" by loving our neighbors as ourselves.
Choose today to "Pay the Love of God Forward" by doing a simple act of love.
