- In Bible Times there was a practice known as 'impressment.' This means a Roman soldier could force a Jewish native to carry his equipment for a whole mile. The soldier's equipment could weigh almost 100 pounds, so this was no easy task.
And if someone takes unfair advantage of you, use the occasion to practice the servant life. Isn't that an unusual way to think about it? After all, if you were the Jewish man being made to carry almost 100 pounds a mile, it's likely your attitude wouldn't be so great, right? Then along came Jesus who said when you're done with the first mile, walk another-willingly!
If you ever wondered where 'go the second mile' came from, well... Jesus was informing us to serve beyond their expectation.
Prayer Theme: Lord, I'm willing to serve. However I may need help on my attitude!
