Jeremiah prophesies that the false prophets and the priests are culpable in leading His people astray. Instead of leading the people into a closer relationship with God, they followed their kings' examples of idolatry. They prophesied that everything was fine although Jeremiah prophesied the opposite. God would deal fiercely with the false prophets.
In the Bible, most of prophecy is forthtelling (what is) not foretelling (what will be). The prophets were God's spokesman/woman. They would speak God's message regardless of the consequences. The false prophets were people pleasers looking for gain- financial, political, personal status/glory. God has wrath stored up for those who speak falsely in His name.
When you prophesy, it is important to only speak what the Lord tells and shows you. Do not manipulate the message. In the case of discipline, although the message may appear to be harsh, God has already been speaking to the person and is using you for confirmation.
When you receive prophecy, it is important to discern. It helps to have brothers and sisters who have the gifts of prophecy and discerning of spirits. God will send confirmation.
Be true to what God has called you to do. God wants us all to prophesy (1 Corinthians 14). But He wants us to prophesy correctly.
