Are we becoming worthless?
Here, God rebukes His people for not worshipping Him as their only true God. Instead, they also worshipped the gods of the lands that God has given them.
"They worshipped worthless idols and make themselves worthless."
When we turn away completely from God, or when we think that there is greater assurance if also worship other gods (or pursuits) in addition to being a Christian, we lose our worth or dilute our worth as God's people.
Worse, we become worthless Christians and only one thing awaits us: God's discipline in our lives to regain our worth. See how He has never let go of Israel and continually works on turning back their hearts to Him?
God would still love us of course, but our real worth as His chosen people, enjoying His blessings, showing forth His power in us to bless others is all but gone!
