Job has already listen to his 3 friends. they think they have the oxymoron figured out. They have put together the Rubik's cube for him. If he would just listen, then all his problems would be solved . Job "if you would just confess this evil in your life, God will hear you and restore your life."
This man has far more patience than I do. I'm amazed that he didn't lock the door on these guys, and tell them to take a hike.
God allows these men to be another issue for him to deal with, as if he hasn't already experience enough pain in his life.
The word says " that a friend loves at all times and is born for a time of adversity." The smartest and wisest thing the 3 friends did was to sit with Job for 7 days and be quiet. Now comes the 4th friend, Elihu, to unload his wisdom on Job.
Elihu is the youngest. He has listened to the other three's explanations of Job's issues. Now he unloads on Job and says " I have the real answer."
O really, do you? Until God reveals himself personally to one of His children, the best thing you and I can do for a hurting person is to be there and withhold all our thoughts and explanations. When your words are really from God, most times they will confirm what God has already said to that person.
Sometimes the best thing to do, is just be quiet. Be there with your love, your support, your prayers, your compassion, your hugs, your "whatever you need, I'm here." But don't be a voice of criticism.
The word gives us many "one anothers" in the bible. Google "one another." It's amazing how many there are. Here are just a few:
Love one another
Pray for one another
Serve one another
Forbear one another (which means to tolerate)
Hug one another
Be compassionate to one another
Encourage one another
Edify one another ( means to build up)
What kind of friend are you to one who is going through their own nightmare?
There is much to be learned on what not to do, and what not to say from Job's friends.
Ask God to give you wisdom and caution with your tongue the next time a friend needs you.
There is death and life in the tongue. (Prov 18:21) May God help each of us to bring life to those who are hurting. Be a "Jonathan" who sticks his neck out to his friend who is need.
Never forget, " Friends loves at all times and is born for a time of adversity. (Proverbs 17:17)
