When I read this passage, I can't help but think of all of the people (Pharisees) that Jesus did not go out of his way to make sure they believed. He always spoke the truth to them, but he did not belabor it. He was the walking example of "do not throw your pearls before swine". He didn't withhold God's love and truth from the Pharisees, but he did not bend over backwards to try and win them over. This is an amazing reminder of how we should be- we should be so tenderhearted to God that he doesn't want us to miss an opportunity to believe. When we are receptive to him, he does indeed meet us where we are. When we are full of ourselves, believing that we are in control of a situation, or pridefully trying to live life on our own terms, he will present us with the truth, but not worry if we do not receive it.
