What is it that we've all learned so far about evolution? What do we think of it, since we've all at least taken a basic biology course?
Before I continue in taking these notes, I'm only publishing them so that my fellow brothers and sisters and Christ can know and believe without being idiots. We want to be knowledgable an not sound ignorant.
The first big question: how did the universe come to exist?
If we can answer that, we can answer how WE came to exist. It's either god, or it's chance.
The universe came to exist because God made it (Gen. 1:1-2)
The Bible teaches this, and that the universe came to exist at a point in time, which disproves the theory that the universe is eternal. (John 1:1-3)
A scientific argument is that everything that begins to exist means it has a cause.
2 Peter 3:5 explains how the Heavens and the earth was created.
But, this doesn't do any good in a science class.
How does the Bible for with science?
The Bible's theory does indeed coincide with scientific theory. Hubble discovered that the galaxies all were spreading apart, and this proves that there was a point in time in which the universe began, which is now known in science as the big bang theory.
God created the universe out of nothing., and Stephen Hawking did credit this theory, saying that universes create themselves out of nothing.
The biggest dispute is how old the earth is, and the Christian argument is between the Young Earth vs. Old Earth Creationists, and they both gain their arguments the Bible. Current science would say the earth is 14 billion years old, which does not fit into Young Earth Creationist ideals.
The problem with a lot of science is that it also based upon a lot of philosophy, which most people also base religion upon. When it comes to evolution, some of it is built of science and philosophy.
The theory of evolution is very broad, but it essentially encompasses the issues of the origins of the universe, if it happened by chance, where humans came from, etc.
A naturalist is someone who believes the universe and life on earth came into being by complete and utter chance. The most ironic thing about it is that two centuries earlier, the scientists who had the same ideas about naturalism were all Christians. For example, Johannes Kepler was a committed Christian and brought God to the conversation with planetary movement. Even Darwin wrote all about God in the Origin of Species (even if he renounced his faith later on)! However. Science today no longer allows for any mention of anything besides naturalism.
The Bible does not allow for evolution of any kind because it plainly states that God created this, this, this and this as separate beings. The theory of evolution is based upon the concept of macro-evolution, talking species to species to species, as opposed to micro-evolution.
Theistic evolution is a theory that has been created in order to combine Darwinist theories about evolution with Christian beliefs, saying God created everything, and then nature took over (but there is not room in the Bible for this to hold much truth, either). It is impossible to form an intellectual opinion on such things without a back up of Scriptural evidence, if said person is a committed Christian.
What is our evidence for creation vs. evolution?
When it comes to the universe, what is the evidence that it came to be on its own? Hawking said it happens because of gravity, which is flawed in itself because there is not proof of two here gravity has come to be, since it's a theory in itself. The evidence of its purposeful design comes from the Intelligent Design Movement, since there is such precision in the universe. For example, there's the cosmological constant that is SO finely tuned, that if it were changed by even a little bit, the universe would not be able to hold itself together, and this is scientific fact. And electrons to protons is finely tuned, and so many other constants are present that of they were changed even by the slightest, the universe wouldn't exist. It's even with the earth! With the tilt of the earth on its axis at 23.5 degrees. If it was tilted by even one more degree in one direction, the seasons would dramatically alter the seasons and the ability to sustain life. If it spun faster, the days would be eight hours long and have 500 mile wind. If it was located anywhere different, it would not sustain life. The size of the moon and the sun is the same from earth's perspective and the fact it's only visible from earth, is so incredible. The fact we have a moon! Its size, its distance, the fact it regulates tides. It's all so finely tuned.
An the cell. You cannot get less than a cell and still have life; it's irreducibly complex. All the components and information systems, no one is able to explain how all that has come to be, where it came from, and so on. It is all so intelligently designed that it is almost impossible to discredit at least a basic divine creator, which in the case of us as Christians is God.
