Now I don't doubt one bit the miraculous being involved in the destruction of Jericho. But I always notice the details.

The book of Joshua already goes into detail of how Jericho was already in a state of panic because of the news of what the Israelites were accomplishing and completely shut themselves in. But God uses psychological warfare here just like he did against the Egyptians.

Imagine you live in a walled city. You hear about this crazy multitude of people and a monstrous God who destroyed the last Hyksos dynasty in Egypt (oh yes, they were Hyksos). Who parted the Red Sea. Who spoke from a burning furnace in Sinai. Who killed several Amorite kings, some of whom were Anakim in descent.

Now this same group of myth and legend come to your city carrying a strange golden object, and approximately 600,000 men in complete "radio silence" just walk around your city once, and go right back from where they came. They do this in complete silence every day for 6 days. Then on day seven, they stop, blow a trumpet and scream as loud as they can.

Jericho shat itself that day. Israel might as well have been shadow-zombie-vampires as far as they were concerned!

Talk about psychological warfare!
