It is very human to feel distanced from God in times of personal failure or sin.
This psalm has a strong context in David’s sin “because of mine iniquity..my bones are consumed”(v10). That the final cry on the cross however, “into thy hands I commit my spirit,” has its birth in this Psalm (v5) must be the ultimate expression of accessible intimacy with God in dysfunctional and distancing circumstances.
That God operates like this is counter-intuitive to our natural reasoning. To tap this as a strength source is another thing.
The Psalm is quintessentially David, wrestling favour with God and drawing on the resources of that relationship to gain leverage for salvation. Here is the man that tapped the source.
