John's message was very simple. Repent and get ready.
1. Repent- he simply told people to change their ways to the ways of God. He told the taxpayers to be honest. He told the soldiers to stop abusing their power. In fact, it seems that the repentance he preached had more to do with the way we treat others. Perhaps this is because our inward spiritual condition is clearly demonstrated by the way we interact with others.
2. Get ready- Perhaps the emphasis on repentance was John's way of telling the Jewish people how they could prepare for the Messiah. Change your heart so He can change your life.
