From this passage, we see that the leaders of the church, when they had heard Paul's gospel, concluded that Paul's message was special for the Gentiles. This means it was different, in one way or another, from the message that they were preaching to their fellow Jews. But even though it was different, they didn't see it as an inferior message. I am very curious as to how it was different--perhaps we'll never know completely. Nevertheless, what this teaches me is that God may give different messages to different messengers who are sent to different people groups or individuals. Meaning my message may be different from your message. Perhaps instead of concluding that because there are differences, one must be right and the other wrong, maybe we can like the early church leaders conclude that the other must have been specially anointed and sent to a different people with different needs. Just a thought.
