we must step out in faith
I think Jesus basically ignores the question of the Pharisees because they don't even know where their faith lies. They aim to trip him up, but they have nothing to stand on anyway. They are neither prepared to lie and say John's baptisms were of man, nor are they prepared to admit that their belief system has been challenged by the one true God.
If there's one thing that God consistently speaks negatively about, it's wishy-washy ppl who are afraid to even lead with their faith. It's okay to admit we're scared to follow God, so we can recognize and eventually dismiss our fears in faith. But faith cannot grow without challenge, and it cannot be challenged if it is never voiced or acted on...
God, help me to see my weaknesses today so I can follow you past my fears and reservations and doubts into the glories you have planned and promised!
