"Noah built an alter to the Lord...and when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, "I will never again curse the ground because of man..."
Noah made burnt offerings before the Lord and in doing so was found to be right before God.
Similarly, in Ezra 8, Ezra proclaimed a fast that "we might humble ourselves before our God." The scriptures say "we fasted and implored our God for this, and he listened to our entreaty."
Ezra prayed for divine protection and because of his faith and humility, God was pleased to honor his request.
In Mt 8 we find a Roman centurion who is bestowed with the greatest honor imaginable: the praise and honor of our lord Jesus. Why? Because of his great humility and his simple, steadfast faith.
Can you imagine the feeling of being lifted up for honor by Jesus? Or the satisfaction of knowing that your offering was received as a pleasing offering by the Lord? Or the thrill of receiving divine protection as a testimony to a watching world? Oh, that my life would be one of such faith and humility. That my heart would be pure and that I could walk boldly, being right with God. May that always be my goal and may God give me the grace to walk purely with him by faith.
May my motivation always be for God's glory, not my own. May I never seek my own power or fame as Simon the Magician did, whom Peter rebuked in Acts 8 saying, "your heart is not right before God."
May I walk humbly and uprightly all the days of my life, and may I experience the peace and joy of being "right with God."
