leaves, but no fruit

Someone else posted that Jesus cursed this tree because it lied to him. Based on the physical appearance of the tree (big green leaves), the tree should have been mature and it should have had fruit. That's why Jesus went over to it in the first place. But instead, it looked like something it was not.  It's appearance deceived Jesus, making him angry enough to curse the tree.

The application is a pretty crucial criticism of people who claim the name of Christ. If we call ourselves Christians, we become an image of God in this world, and that is a tall order to live up to. I cannot even number the times that I've failed that image, even though I so want to live up to His work in me.

What have I done today to honor His name with my life? What can I do tomorrow to make sure my life becomes less of a lie?  so that when someone approaches me knowing that I claim to be a Christian, they actually find Christian love and Christian teaching and Christian hope in my life that is ready to be shared with them.

Hope and prayer for things unseen...
