Bread. All throughout history man's meal has included one thing if nothing else, and that's bread. Even the poorest of men had milk and bread on the table. Many people today say that can't eat dinner without some form of bread, whether it be a roll, biscuit, or southern cornbread. During times of bad weather the first thing to disappear from the grocery store shelf is bread (followed by milk of course). There has to be something nourishing, fulfilling and sustaining about bread because dietitians, and nutritionists in recent years have told us that one of the best ways to lose weight is to cut back on our white bread intake and if we want to stay full longer switch to 100% whole wheat BREAD!
There is something fulfilling about bread!
Throughout the Old Testament God sent manna, aka, bread to feed the Hebrew children as they journeyed. He sent them a little something extra every now and then, but for the most part he sent BREAD! Fulfilling for the journey, and a symbol of Who was to come.
Even when Jesus fed the thousands, He didn't just give them fish or fish and fruit. He gave them fish and Bread. Finally, at the Lord's Last Supper, there may have been other goodies available on the table that day, however, Christ especially chose bread to symbolize His body. Can you imagine if He had chosen a fig instead? Let's just say our Communion Sundays would be very interesting!
All of the above are earthly and natural fulfillment and energy sustaining examples of bread. But guess what? There are some downsides to bread as well. After a while, whether you eat, white bread, whole wheat, peanut butter and bread, or manna straight from heaven, the energy you receive from eating it eventually wears off and you hunger again. Even if you LOVE biscuits, cornbread, and buttered rolls, you don't want it every day. Plus, who wants to gain ALL that weight just from bread alone? You may get tired of eating bread all the time if you are forced to eat bread all the time because that's all you have to eat (remember how the Hebrew children complained?). Earthly bread gets stale and molded after a few weeks. Sometimes you go to the kitchen to make a sandwich and all the bread is gone! How disappointing!
But I'm telling you today, that THERE IS a BREAD that is so fulfilling that it is LIFE GIVING! The Bread of Life is Life Sustaining! Once you eat of this bread, you will gain weight, but it is good weight, like muscle. You will gain strength, and power. You will hunger no more and you will not die. You will live and live forever! You can and you must feast on the bread of life daily. Unlike earthly bread, you never have to worry about the bread of life becoming stale, because every day you feast thereof, you will receive a fresh anointing of power and strength. You never have to worry about supply running out, because the bread of life is ALWAYS there!
This Bread of Life sounds too good to be true huh? Sounds quite expensive? The most awesome thing about it is that the Bread of Life is free! A gift that we all have access to. If you are hungry, so hungry you ache because you are so unfilled. So hungry that you are on life support and are about ready to pull the plug, just call on The Bread of Life. Call on the Lord our Savior Jesus Christ. Believe in Him today. Receive His Life Saving, Life Giving and Life Sustaining Bread and hunger no more! Amen!
