Pharisees don't confess
John the Baptist was baptizing people after the people confessed their sins in the river. And the Pharisees and Saducees stood along the bank, "claiming" by their inaction that they didn't need to confess, that they were perfect.
If someone is claiming to be perfect and not having any faults, they aren't fooling anyone. They're fooling themselves.
