Call to perfection
This whole section of this chapter of Ephesians seems like a huge task: this call to perfection in words, actions, and thoughts. But what makes these verses stand out to me today is not the enormity of what we are called to, but the tenderness of the call. We are not to steal, but to work so we may give to those in need. We are not to engage in unwholesome words, but rather say things that bless others in grace and love. And it goes on. God reveals his heart for us, as his children, in what he asks of us: for us to do these things, as his emissaries of peace in this world, as his body, living together in love. That is worth striving for!
