I do love this scripture, more so for Jesus' amazing answer but there is more to Him addressing this issue. It is important that we understand that the authorities put over us though they often be somewhat ungodly themselves are only there because God placed them or allowed them to be there. Scripture tells us that it's God who raises up Kings and Kingdoms and it is He who brings them down. Jesus shows us that we ought to be faithful and render the things that need be rendered to governing bodies as we ought. This is a witness of righteousness to unbelievers. I believe that unlawful tax evasion is against God's plan and instruction through Jesus. We must be honest with ourselves, are we doing what pleases the Lord our are we clinging to what we think is ours. Let's not just consider WWJD ?
