God knows our weaknesses

Moses knew that he had made arrangements to protect the Israelites by marking a boundary, and assumed that the Israelites would obey. But God knows what His creation is like - He has given us free will and curiosity and He knows that doing what we're told is not in our nature.
God could have created us to be obedient, but He gives us free will instead.
So He takes special precautions. Later on in Exodus He will give us the Ten Commandments - not arbitrary commands to be obeyed for no reason, but a guide for living in society.
How much God loves us! And yet I still think that I know better, and get myself into difficult and dangerous situations. Wouldn't it be easier just to take God's advice and use the Ten Commandments as my guide?
