The Quiet Nature of Jesus

I've often wrestled back and forth between the ideas of broad and public shows of faith and the quiet workings of a pious life. On one hand the boldness of public works cannot help but bring attention to our Faith. On the other hand this very private miracle seems to have power to irrevocably change a persons heart.

I don't claim to have the answer but I am seeing more and more how this ministry to individuals can change lives. I can see the wisdom in not drawing unwanted attention. The mobs abandoned Jesus as quickly as they thronged to declare Him king. Yet within these private moments could there have been true discipleship occurring. The heart to heart moment over three years together formed apostles who all went to their deaths (save John) over their King's message.

There are doubtless many private opportunities and opportunities which are best taken privately between us and those to whom we minister. For the sake of our own pride and to avoid the deceptive influence of the crowds it is likely that most of our significant work will be done in this manner.
