This passage came at the right time for me. Do you ever not want to come to the Lord for some reason? I was in a bit of a funk an didn't want to come to Him for comfort. I was betrayed by a close friend whose betrayal continues to cost me tremendous amounts of wealth. This person needs salvation more than I need provision but it is hard not to feel anxious or doubtful about the future. Well, here it is plain as day I. The Scriptures! The passage I needed even though I didn't want to come and receive it! Isn't that jut like the enemy to deceive us in such a way?!
Well, back to the passage. I would love to ridicule the disciples for being numbskulls except that my above example proves that all throughout our lives we do the same things! The disciples had grown since the last multiplying of the loaves and fish but now Christ wanted to take them deeper.
"Beware of the leaven of the leaven of the Pharisees...," He says, and they began to talk about bread. However, Christ had moved onto more Spiritual truths. "Why are you talking about bread?!" He then states. You see they didn't understand that Christ always was aware of their needs including the physical and whether they had bread or not was moot. He could make it appear out of nowhere as was demonstrated miraculously twice now! This should have had the effect of freeing them to focus on the deeper needs of their soul.
Wow! This hits me right where I live! Christ knows what we need before we do and started His plan for supplying it too! Oh how we need to simply lay it all at His feet in worship, reverence, obedience, and trust!
