anxiety / worry

Paul writing this letter to write about anxiety in the church. One of biggest reason for anxiety is because of relationships.

Reality of anxiety
Verse 6: be anxious of nothing.
Paul was on death row when he wrote this, he understood anxiety. Nothing kills joy like anxiety/worry. "What if" always goes through our mind. In this passage anxiety means to tear or rip us apart. Worry does not accomplish anything.It is like a rocking chair, it gets you nowhere.

Respond to Anxiety in 3 ways

  • Prayer. Talk to God, take you problems to God do not fear. Worry is a direct view of having a wrong view of God. We don't believe God is good and in control. We show that we have to try on ourselves. Do you view God as to far away?
  • Supplication.tasking God for certain things. Ask God for the specifics. Bring every details to God. God is not distant, he want to hear about the details of our life. Through prayer it is the giver that gets the glory. God then gets the glory! God says in His word: pray about everything. Like we want to hear for our kids! So God wants to hear all the details of our lives. He wants to hear how our day was.
  • Thanksgiving. Say thank you for all the things God does for you in your life. Luke 17 Jesus healed 10 leaders but only 1 came back to say thank you. Te one that came back was an unbeliever. Our sin in like leprosy, Jesus came to save us.we should be insanely thank full to God. We focus on the things in our life that are not happening instead of what he do have. The way out of stress is to be thankful. Be thankful to God, it is for us not for God. It frees us from anxiety.

Result of being of obedient.
  • In verse 7 it says that the peace of God will help us. Through Jesus we are at peace with God. In this passage God mentions the "peace of God". The peace that God gives you, he gives you without you even understanding your situation. It passes understanding. This peace will guard our heart and mind. It will guard our emotions and our hearts. It stand watch over our minds and hearts. Nothing is more peaceful than to know that God is your father.
