Its for my good
Pruning a plant allows it to become more fruitful. By removing the dead things, the sap or "life source" can better flow to the needed areas. This passage of scripture is a warning to the saints, that if we bear no productive fruit, we will be cut off from him, being that he is the "True Vine" and we are the "branches". If we abide in him, then we must bear fruit. Good fruit.
