My Presumption

I find that I have all the worst qualities of Peter. I know that God has created me like him and that is ok but I hope that at some point I manifest his good qualities too! Boldness and controlling often exist as partners in people like me and Peter. Here we see Peter rebuking the Lord. I should just stop there because of how preposterous it seems! But how often do we presume to tell the Lord how to do His business. I don't know why I do it. Perhaps it is my own fears or pride or any number of sins but we should learn from those before us that God has never been out of control or caught off guard by any situation. He can be fully trusted to know and do the best thing. Now I wouldn't discourage the emotional outpouring that must occur at times. God is big enough to handle our disappointments and our criticisms. As long as we realize that in the end it is we who are faulty and not Him. In fact, this can be a great encouragement. Here in a moment of confusion and disappointment in Peter's life Christ offers a harsh rebuke. Yet having the benefit of hindsight we know that what resulted of Christ's plan was so much more wonderful than Peter's. The truth can be said of our lives as well.
