Never, perhaps, is Matt 20:28 "the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve" more apparent than in Mark 6:30-56. Jesus was tired (V31) so they went away to rest. But a crowd of people beat them to their destination. He didn't evade them or tell them how tired he was, like I might have done. Instead "He had compassion on them...so He began teaching them." (V34) It got late in the day & everyone was hungry. Did he excuse himself to go get dinner? No, he hung around & conjured up enough food for the crowd. Afterwards he did get some quiet time in the mountains (V46) but before dawn He was walking on water (V48) & reassuring the disciples (Note that here's another 1 of the 366 occurrences of the phrase 'Dont be afraid'), & getting in the boat w/ them. As soon as they arrived at their destination the people were all over Him, begging to be healed.
I am struck at how much He gave...& gave...& gave some more! What a lesson for us all. When we think we're too busy & tired to serve others perhaps these passages will help us to think again.
