Paul calls legalism a yoke of bondage - Jesus set you free to live the free life!
So, stand fast! If you're trusting your ability to keep the Law, Christ will profit you nothing! James says you're guilty if you break the Law in one point, no matter how small the offense. You have fallen from grace. It's not about a preacher and a prostitute here.
"Fallen from grace" is most likely saying you will miss out on the benefit of what Jesus came to secure for you; not that you lost your salvation
BUT
Jesus + circumcision = nothing
Jesus plus law keeping = nothing
Jesus + anything = nothing
We have everything we need if we have Jesus!
Jesus + nothing = everything -- this is the gospel message!
Faith works by love. Faith comes alive in the presence of God! This is all about God's love for us; not our love for Him or even for others.
Jesus is the author and finisher of your faith. Why would you stop to argue with the people in the stand when you're running a race? Keep focused on the race and keep running! A little leaven ruins the while lump. Legalism tries to take over our lives and causes us to judge others.
V 10 warns us about judging others
V 11 - The Cross is offensive to religious people. Why? The Cross says Jesus has done it all. Religious people say it's Jesus plus something!
Faith in Christ alone causes us to receive salvation and all of the promises of God!
V 13- use your freedom to love others and serve others
v 15 is what happens when you're legalistic
Romans 13:8-10 - Love is the fulfilling of the Law. Love does no wrong to others.
v 16 - Freedom produces a reign of the Spirit and a reign of grace in your life. The church has preached don't walk in the flesh. The law is the strength of sin and will not produce right living.
V 20-21 - What is this talking about? Either they have not been born again, riding the fence as close to hell as they can get or Rom 14:17 says the Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. As a believer it's hard to live this way. When you love Jesus you listen to the Holy Spirit and let God be the guide.
V 22 - The fruit of the spirit - this isn't about you being joyful or happy. It's not talking about your behavior or your attitude. It's fruit. You've never seen an apple tree out there trying to bear apples. It is part of its nature.
It's the life of Christ flowing through you. You are believers. It's more normal for you to believe than not believing, faith is a fruit of the spirit.
V 24 - Don't let the flesh rule you. Seek those things above not on things of the earth. Mortifying your fleshly members rule you.
V 24 - You have the ability of God in you. The same spirit that rose Jesus from the dead.
Romans 5:21 - Freedom produces faith, love and the fruit of God. When grace is reigning in you, you will see the fruit of the Spirit.
Gal 6:1-5 - The mark of spirituality is not exposing others sins. If you are spiritual, restore others in a spirit of humility
Romans 15:1-3 Let Jesus be our example. Those who are weak, hold them up!
If you understand how good God has been to you, you will do good to others and help those in need.
Gal 6:6-10 - Do good to everyone, especially believers.
Goodness and generosity are fruits of the freedom in Christ.
V 11-12 Living the grace of God and the glory of God
Focus on what Jesus did and not what we do! Otherwise, we are legalists!
V 14- our allegiance today is to the Cross of Jesus Christ!
V 15-18 You, in Christ, are a new creation! OUR GOAL TODAY IS TO LET CHRIST LIVE BIG IN US!
