All things
Lately, I've been rather unforgiving. There are events that happened years ago that left some emotional scars on my husband. I try to forgive people when it's just me, but I get defensive as all get out when it comes to him. It's hard to forgive those wrongs. Today, when I was talking to my dad about those events, he reminded me of this verse: All things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purposes. What a wonderful promise, and how absolutely necessary for forgiveness. There are bad things that happen that can't be reversed, and they may affect our lives for years, but God can use those things for good. He can use ALL things for our good. He guides our lives. And even the things that are terrible or wrong, he will make meaning out of in our lives. What a promise. What an empowerment to forgive. That event does not define us. Rather, God can redefine those events in our lives.
